Heat Pump Installation

Victoria, BC

Heat pumps are becoming increasingly popular as homeowners and commercial buildings are seeking ways to reduce the cost of heating and cooling a home, as well as reducing their carbon footprint.

Studies show that a heat pump that is properly installed, and is the right size for the area it’s responsible to heat, can save an average of 30% annually on your heating bill.

It’s very important to ensure that you get the right sized heat pump for your home. If it’s too small and can’t cover the area then it will work hard to make up for the inefficiency and will cost you as much or more in your hydro bill. And if it’s too big, they can suck up too much excess energy unnecessarily due to the volume of air they move around.

Always look to an expert for advice before buying. That way you won’t regret it. Heat pumps are a great complement to a gas furnace.

Our team of HVAC specialists are skilled and highly experienced in heat pump installation. One of the benefits of a ductless system is that there is no need for duct cleaning maintenance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a heat pump?

A heat pump is a part of a buildings HVAC system and is used for heating and cooling interior spaces. They rely on electricity to heat or cool a home or building using a refrigerant.  They essentially pump warm or cool air from inside or outside of your home depending on the temperature you want to achieve.

  • Do heat pumps work well in the Victoria climate?

Heat pumps can be a very effective way to heat your home if you live in the Victoria region. Our mild winters make it possible, simply because we don’t see our temperatures dip below freezing in the cold months on a regular basis. They can be adapted to function with your existing gas or oil furnace to achieve a more energy efficient solution.

  • What are the pros of installing a heat pump?

Heat pumps have a lot going for them. They may not be the perfect solution for everyone, but for those that they are, the following are just of the benefits of installing one.

Because a heat pump can also cool, the benefit is having one unit that can function for heating and cooling. One unit also means les maintenance, reduction in your carbon footprint, no gas or oil so they’re safer, and the lower costs to operate them.

  • What are the cons of installing a heat pump?

Well, the obvious is the initial upfront cost to install it. Certainly, over the lifetime of the unit, it will save you substantial money, so look at it as a long-term investment.  Another con is that when the outside air gets to less than 6 degrees Celsius, the units become less effective. This can be addressed by pairing the unit up with an existing gas or oil furnace that can kick in and make up the difference. They can be on the noisy side as they force air around your home.

  • How much does a heat pump cost?

This is dependent on the size of the home or building you want to use the heat pump for. It’s very important that for optimal efficiency you get the unit that is the right size for your space. Too small or too big are not good. With that said, research shows that the heat pump and installation will run between $4000 – 12,000.

  • How long does it take to install a heat pump?

An experienced heat pump installer can get the job done in around a ½ day if all is straight forward. Otherwise, it makes take upwards of a day. The bigger challenge is that when the weather starts to get colder, then the demand for installation exceeds the supply of installers and the wait time can be a little long. Spring and into early Autumn is the best period of time to consider getting this work done as everyone is a bit slower and can get projects completed quicker.
